What is KRC-20?
A token standard on Kaspa, launched in 2024 by Kasplex.
KRC-20 is a fungible token standard for Kaspa, introduced in 2024 by the Kasplex team. It lets anyone deploy, mint and transfer tokens on Kaspa.
How it works
KRC-20 tokens are recorded by writing small pieces of data into ordinary Kaspa transactions, similar in spirit to inscriptions on Bitcoin. An indexer reads those transactions and keeps track of who owns which tokens. The Kaspa base layer stores the data but doesn't itself understand token balances.
Native assets after Toccata
The Toccata hard fork in 2026 added native asset and covenant support at the protocol level. That gives builders a way to create tokens the base layer understands directly, alongside the existing KRC-20 ecosystem.
Safety tips
- Only use wallets that explicitly support KRC-20.
- Anyone can deploy a token with any name. Check the ticker and deployer before buying.
- Never share your seed phrase, including with "support" accounts in chats.
