What is Crescendo?
The May 2025 hard fork that took Kaspa from 1 to 10 blocks per second.
Crescendo was the Kaspa hard fork that activated on mainnet in May 2025. Its headline change raised the block rate from 1 block per second to 10 blocks per second.
What changed
- 10 BPS. Ten times more blocks, each found roughly every 100 milliseconds.
- Faster inclusion. Transactions land in a block almost immediately and gather confirmations quickly.
- Protocol improvements. The upgrade bundled several Kaspa Improvement Proposals (KIPs), including groundwork for later smart contract features.
What didn't change
The total supply and emission curve were preserved. Because there are ten times more blocks, the reward per block was scaled down by the same factor, so the KAS issued per second stayed on schedule. See the emission schedule.
What came next
Crescendo was followed by the Toccata hard fork in 2026. DAGKnight and higher block rates are on the roadmap. See the full upgrade tracker.
